Dr. Thometz teaches a variety of courses, including: 

Ecology

 

The goal of this course is to introduce students to important concepts in ecology. Basic principles will be presented through an analysis of concepts which span different levels of biological organization from individuals and populations to communities and ecosystems. Throughout the course students will gain an appreciation for the vast diversity and complexity existing in natural ecosystems spanning various biogeographic regions across the globe.

Biology of Marine Mammals

 

In this course, students will learn about the natural history, evolution, anatomy, physiology, behavior, sensory abilities, and conservation of the marine mammals of the world including: cetaceans, pinnipeds, sirenians, sea otters, and polar bears. 

Comparative Animal Physiology

 

Course topics include energetics, nervous systems, muscles, locomotion, respiratory systems, circulatory systems, osmoregulation, thermoregulation, and sensory systems in a variety of taxa (emphasis on vertebrates). Laboratory sections focused on quantitative physiological principles of organs and organ systems.
